Over the course of four weeks, James and a group of runners will take on several extraordinary endurance challenges - Rome Marathon, a 50k ultra marathon around Battersea Track and the London Marathon - in memory of James’ late partner, Emma.
Emma’s story
James shares with us: “Emma was a delight to anyone she met, an incredibly kind and thoughtful person that always put others first. She loved the outdoors, walking through the natural world with the wind in her hair and documenting it with her photography skills she learnt from her parents.
We both reluctantly (at the time) signed up to Hastings Half Marathon in March 2022, however we quickly began enjoying the training and seeing the benefits of keeping healthy, and so Emma’s love for running began. Emma went on to complete Hastings Half, by no means an easy route, and the Royal Parks Half Marathon, with the hope of one day completing a marathon.
In July 2025 Emma was sadly diagnosed with Stage 4 Triple Negative Breast Cancer, a shock to all of us considering Emma was so young and healthy.
She fought valiantly throughout her chemotherapy despite knowing the severity of her diagnosis, spreading her message through social media, telling women (and men) to stay vigilant of your bodies and how her treatment was progressing. She had good days and bad days, yet always made sure she got out and enjoyed the fresh air when she could. Throughout her treatment Emma still provided myself, her friends and family with support and encouragement, showing her selfless personality in life.
5 months later Emma’s symptoms became unforgiving, and she sadly passed away on 23rd December. She never gave up and wanted to fight to the end, her determination and resolve was inspiring and I often remind myself of this when times are hard.
Never thinking I could run a marathon, I decided to do London Marathon to complete the race Emma always wanted to do. It will be tough and training will be long, but with Emma’s courage and perseverance in difficult times, I know I’ll get over that line with her beside me.
Raising money for TNBC will no doubt help others in Emma’s position, their families included.
Donating to these causes brings hope to those in need, and hopefully one day ending the trauma and pain those that lose loved ones have to endure.”
